A Brief History of PANS, Polish American Numismatic Society.
PANS – Polish American Numismatic Society (a Non-Profit Numismatic Society) was founded in November, 1981 by seven members who met at L & M Jewelers & Coins in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Mr. Lucian, Mr. Richard, Mr. Alexander, Mr. Lester, Mr. Edward, Mr. Michael and Mr. Mark.
The first PANS president was Mr. Lucian. He presided from November of 1981 to December of 1994. PANS meetings were held every month from September to June on the first Saturday of the Month at the Park Community Building in East Detroit.
Mr. Lester was nominated as the second PANS president in January of 1995 and presides as the current PANS president.
PANS Club currently meets on the first Saturday of the Month at 11 AM at the American Polish Cultural Center, 2975 E. Maple Road, Troy, MI 48083, (248) 689-3636. We have 10 – 11 meetings per year (From August to June). Society dues are $15.00 per year. Payable to the treasurer in January each year.
Meeting agendas include business matters and informative lectures on many numismatic topics including US, Poland and World Numismatics:
( Coins, error and variety coins, medals, tokens, paper money, scrip, numismatic books, digital coin photography, coin and medal and paper conservation).
Elections are held in November and the new term starts in January.
The PANS has a Constitution and by-laws that are upheld by its Members.
Our PANS logo is the Polish Constitution Commemorative 1925, 5 Zloty Silver Coin with 81 pearls on the obverse rim: Obverse of Coin has two figures, One symbolizes Poland receiving the Constitution. The reverse of the coin has the Polish Eagle and date at the bottom. The PANS logo has the Eagle in the background with a Polish Flag on the right and the American Flag on the left. To the right of the Polish flag we display the Polish 1976, 500 Zloty Gold Coin depicting the Polish revolutionary Hero
Kazimierz Pulaski and to the left of the American flag we display another Polish 1976, 500 Zloty Gold Coin depicting another revolutionary Hero Tadeusz Kosciuszko. Both revolutionary heroes fought for Poland and The United States of America.
Over the years the PANS has grown to become a highly respected Numismatic Club in Michigan that currently holds two major numismatic club shows. The first PANS numismatic show is held on the third Sunday in February, and is the largest numismatic club Show in Michigan with over 100 sold out dealer tables. Our second PANS numismatic show is held late August, 1 – 2 weeks before Labor Day. Both PANS numismatic shows are packed with collectors and dealers wanting to buy and sell coins, medals, tokens, paper money, numismatic books and stamps.
The money that is raised from the PANS numismatic shows is used for PANS scholarships, Polonia scholarships and local donations to local charities.
The PANS Scholarship, approved by PANS members on September 10, 2011, is a $200 merit-based scholarship for a PANS member in-good-standing to be used for numismatic education classes. A club member in-good standing is described as:
